Hey guys. Great first episode! I’m glad you brought up Evernote. I have an account and I just haven’t gotten the hang of it yet. But everyone I respect seems to use it and swear by it. You said it was better than using your email to keep track of certain things, but you didn’t say why. So, why is that? I already have lots of archived messages and receipts in my email complete with filters and labels. What’s the benefit of moving everything over and storing in Evernote?
That is a very good question and hopefully this will be a really good answer.
Inside of evernote there are many features that aren’t available in email.
1. Searchable by tags – So if it is a receipt and you have a bunch of paypal, but this was a write-off, if you tagged it correctly you will not have to worry about looking through all of them.
2. Evernote is more than a storage place – I use it for recording audio of things I want, for you it might be a beat that you come up with and record it through the smart phone mic. Then you can tag it with the location, the write up a description of what inspired it, etc.
Also you can take a lot of the loops and such and sort them inside of Evernote and then tag them correctly so that when you are feeling a mood you can just search by that #tag – 808 or groovy or d&b, etc. The searchability is one of the ways it is superior to anything else.
3. For receipts you can share that folder with accountants for easy access at tax time. That is what we do for a lot of shared folders.
4. The problem with achieving in gmail is that it is hard to know what is there and you will only know if you are able to find it from a search. That can be frustrating sometimes. With Evernote as long as I know it is in some sort of Category then I can search in that category. Its hard to picture it but with gmail if you just achieve in “all mail”, then it will be a nightmare to get to find it next time.
5. It will help you become paperless. I keep an note that I write down in there eventually. I take pictures of prices of food items at different stores and then compare when I get home by sorting by tags.
It does a lot more than just this. The two are in different categories. I still categorize my mail, but receipts and passwords and important emails I would rather have in evernote because it is also searchable offline.
I hope that helps and good luck with the switch, you just got to jump in and you will see the shear awesomeness of the program.
Thanks for this. I was not aware of any of these tools.
I am definitely going to implement Google Website Optimizer as I put together my squeeze pages and split test all the way.
Evernote will help with organization, which has been one of my weak links.
Thanks Matthew – glad the tools helped. You will love GWO for your squeeze pages. I know many marketers and teachers (myself included) will tell you what is working at the moment, but the truth is, no one really knows what is going to work until you test it.
And Evernote is the truth. Best app IMO right now!
